Just wanted to pop a quick note out to everyone. We are getting more snow, and it is very welcome….but…it is quite localized, so although there might be great snow in the bush near Hawkstone, the farmers fields towards town are not covered, so trust me when I say you will feel every bump!!!!
This weekend there was of course a lot of traffic on trails that were open….please remember that everyone is out to enjoy themselves and rail lines are multi-use, so pedestrians are enjoying the trails as well.
I realize many people have got new toys to try out, and people with same as lat year want to get on them….please use some common sense….these are high powered machines, they go from zero to out of control in a very short time, specially with limited snow…..yes you might think you want to go a little faster then the people in front of you…doesn’t mean you should….pass safely when they wave you on by, don’t think you have to “make time” and giver hard, you are only going to run in to the next group. You are out for a ride remember!
Groomers are out, but the heavy freezing rains are sagging many branches and limbs, so all our hard work by our volunteers for trail clearing in the fall may not be totally apparent, but trust me it happened. Always drive as if there is an obstacle around the next corner!
The cold temps are very welcome so we can get through the swamps, but with limited snow to fill in the bumps, it’ll be like riding through a battle zone, take your time drive slow.
The lake still scares me, I am not going to lie to you….people said they heard machines out this weekend….I was not and will not be one of them for a while yet…people were water skiing on the lake 10 days ago, and we’ve only had one -18C night since then….not a weeks worth like we normally get.
Happy trails everyone, Ride safe, ride sober!
