Local Trails Information and Updates for 2011/2012 We'll pass along some new information as the season progresses! Feel free to get the Map open in a different window to follow along. (some browsers allow you to zoom in and out on the MAP with the CTRL key and the mouse wheel) West Side Club trails (200 series) There are some changes to the B Trail, just west of Home Depot as it goes behind the new housing development coming, some small reroutes. Unfortunately it cuts off a bit or running through the woods, but this will be more towards our permanent location as the progression of the new housing development grows ever so quickly! Trail 202, from Old Barrie Rd, north along side the east side of Hwy 11, there is a fence going in with a gate for us, so we just have to sort out the details with the landowners at the north end (Highwayman Inn) where to back in again. The existing vacant land beside the hotel is going to be developed eventually, so the gate is being placed in a more permanent location now, so it will not have to be moved in the future. Please help by not causing issues around the hotel, as the permissions could be revoked for this area. B205C (Ingram Side Rd to Moonstone to Hwy 400 overpass) This has all been brushed and should be ready to go, just watch for logging at the top end of Mt St Louis Moonstone, but they are expected to be complete by Christmas. Please be respectful passing through the city of Moonstone and close to the school....please watch for children playing with their usual very unpredictable nature! B105C (Coldwater to Division Rd on the Uhthoff Rail Line) The older John Deere groomer is looking to be in fine shape this year, with a lot of work being done over the summer, so lets hope we get lots more miles on it smoothing out the rail line this year!! It's a pretty high traffic trail, with slightly greater speeds (nothing over 50 of course!!!) so it get's bumped up in a hurry. B105 (Uhtoff rail line to North River, SMART trail connection) The guys were out brushing last week, so hopefully Mother Nature will bless us with a perfect amount of the white stuff, and good solid ground to get up through! East Side (East of Lake Couchiching) We've had the brusher in south of the Monck Rd for quite a stretch, and there are some beaver dams and culverts being looked after, so yes we may be able to make it through earlier in the season, should be a good trail if we can get mother nature to help out this year!!! B104 (B connection to 13th Line Ramara, Carden Sno-Drifters connection) More excavator work has been done this year to help with the wet conditions, reroute between 13th conc and Monk Rd to avoid the swamp. Warnings: We'll post notices here if we hear of any areas to watch out for, ie logging, construction etc. OFSC Link to the latest updates Longer Term Plans and Future Bridge Updates: Yes we would love to have a bridge across Hwy 11, to help link people to/from the city without a major trip south or north, but we have to deal with so many different groups it is difficult to get any commitments. We almost had one across Hwy 11, north of the Old Barrie Rd, by the water tower, but that has been delayed indefinitely. The tunnel under Hwy 11 by the Highwayman Inn, comes out on to private land on the west side, and will not be changed, so we have an issue with this. Cleaning it out to it's full depth won't help as the water level is too high around there anyway. So in the short term, we'll have to head north or south to get around to the other side. The bridge across the Atherly narrows (old CN bridge) is still being worked on, but the basic concept has changed and increased with the additions of the historical fish weirs, so it is progressing, but slower. We are still working on the Waubaushene connection from Coldwater, up the east side of Hwy 400, then under by the Esso station in Waubaushene. It's not sorted out yet, and there is some resistance to snowmobilers being on the trail, so please don't agrevate the issue by trying to use it. Once again, our biggest issue for all landowners is 4 wheelers, as they cause the most damage and frustration to the land owners. So please, do whatever you can to pass the word, just because a snowmobile trail goes through, that does not mean it is a 4 wheeler trail in the other seasons. This is by far our biggest reason for trail problems! This is the reason why we do so much road running to get around areas....think about that as you scratch along slowly in the sandy/salty sketchy snow conditions........ |
