Nov , 2011, New information is coming, just getting it all together!! The Newsletter is updated, check it out down below! Check for the latest daily updates on the new OFSC interactive map!! (MAP) First bigger trail news to watch out for for this year is, there is NO GAS at either the Hawthorne Grill or Hawkstone. So that is the East Side B trail, NO GAS. I'll try to find out if the Sebright station is still around, but that was quite a few years ago, that I used that one. Ed says: Remember there is two gas station located on hwy 11 on the way to 204 Goldstein. The stations are 300 yds. off Couchiching in line with public access lake pathways. The Rail line down from Orillia to Barrie, then has no gas either for this year as the Hawkstone store is not pumping anymore. There is a fence going in along Hwy 11 on the 202 trail to Highwayman Inn, access will not be as easy for those local residence. There is a guard rail in the middle of Hwy 11, it is illegal and very dangerous to try to cross Hwy 11 around this Highwayman Inn/Hwy 11/Hwy12 area. For now, I know it is a long ways, but you should head back down around the rail line and back up the B trail...what the heck, you are looking for a ride anyway right!!! We're still looking at other longer term solutions, but the MTO is involved along with municipalities and the City...doesn't bod well for a quick resolution, but it is being worked on! B205C, Moonstone, there is logging operations just off the 6th Line/Moonstone Rd, at the top of Mt St Louis Moonstone, but they should be done by Christmas, so we'll keep you updated. This only effects a small sections, just be careful, as equipment may be in the area, and the trail conditions could change quickly. 204, North (west side of the lake) towards Gravenhurst (15?), the swing bridge repairs are expected to be complete by the time the snow flies, if not already, so we should be all set for that one. Send in your updates!!! We'll post'em for all to see! Last years: A couple of big notes to watch for for this year: There is a guard rail this year from the G8 summit all up Hwy 11, so we really have to stress that it is illegal and very dangerous to try to jump across Hwy11 near the old tunnel by the old WalMart. I know it's a long ways to cruise back down and around, but it is really the best way to get from the Highwayman Inn to Boston Pizza and that area. You're out for a ride anyway aren't you??? We have an issue with one land owner, which is severely effecting the B trail at the 14th Line (South west of the city), so at the moment (Dec 23/10) there is no access for any loops around to the city. Some of the trail will be open, but we have kept a large portion of the B trail closed to try to avoid further issues and leading people to a closed gate. Hopefully this issue will be resolved early in the new year, and please be aware that we are working on it, so please do not pass the closed gates as this only adds to the issue at this point. Since the lake is closed, there is no access for any nice loops around the city, so you'll have to watch where you end up, as you may get turned back to head around the long way. Up and to the north-east corner (Coopers Falls area) there is still a land owner issue heading north to the Gravenhurst area, however we are hopeful this will be resolved soon, but will probably not be available for this season, however next season we should have a good run up the B trail in that direction with out as much road running. As an alternative, Barry, Peter, Dan, Ken, Brian, Mike, Britton, Eric, Derek, Louise, Don, Ted, Blake, Kevin, Ed, John, Don and Frank Cooper Construction have been doing a spectacular job on the new 204 trail up the west side of the lake, so this trail has a lot less road running this year and should offer some excellent riding. It connects with the Gravenhurst trail across Sparrow Lake. Just as a quick note, the trails take approx 3-4hrs to setup after a groomer has passed over, so if you happen to come across the groomer, please do you best to stay off the immediate groomed trail, or at least do your best to drive smoothly and not ruin it for the rest of the people to follow later. Groomers take hours to do sections of trails, they can be ruined in minutes. That being said...the next morning....freshly groomed trails....ahhhh..... =============== MAPS The 2011 Map is all set and is ready for download.
